HOROLOGICAL ILLUSTRATION - A TRIBUTE TO JOHN REDFERN SPECIAL PRE-SYMPOSIUM PROGRAM 2-4 P.M. FRIDAY OCTOBER 21 Many thanks to the Antiquarian Horological Society - American Section for hosting and underwriting the costs of this bonus session. The late John Redfern (1939-2019) was a true master of animated horological illustration. Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Martin Conradi with considerable assistance from Philip Whyte, Will Andrewes, Jonathan Betts and many others, a website dedicated to John's legacy is available for us to appreciate. This special program, a symposium bonus offered by advance registration, will be opened by AHS Chair Dr. James Nye from London. Bob Frishman, "Horology in Art" scholar, then will provide a brief overview of horological illustration from the beginnings of mechanical timekeeping. A panel presentation will follow, exploring John's career and projecting several examples of his meticulously-created animations of escapements and movements.
